Arctic wrist warmers

The transition between summer and autumn can be cold, ecpesially in a Nordic country like Norway. Also summer evenings can be quite chilly. I made this pair of wrist warmers to keep me warm one evening, and now I will not take them of! It’s because of the soft merino wool yarn with a mix of silk. It’s also because they look so delicate!

The wrist warmers are made of cross stitches, which give a pretty textural effect. They look great as accessories for summer dresses.

If you want to make a pair yourself, grab a hook and some pretty scrap yarn. Let’s get hooking!

Material for my sample

  • 15g of Fino (100g/450m/490yards) from Manos Del Uruguay, fingering weight yarn.

  • Hook size 4.0 mm

Measurements

Width: 8 cm/3.15 inch

Hight: 12.5 cm/5 inch

Abbreviations

st - stitch

sl st - slip stitch

fsc - foundation single crochet

sc - single crochet

dc - double crochet

Notes

  • The wristlers fit a normal woman’s hand. If you want to adjust the width of the wristlers, the pattern is multiple of 4 + 3.

  • Ch 3 at start of a round count as a dc.

  • Foundation single crochet gives a nice and stretchy first round. You can replace the foundation single crochet round with a chain of 28 ch + 1. Work a sc in 2nd ch, and in each ch across (=28 sc). Use hook size 4.5mm making the chains, and change to hook size 4.0mm when making sc.

Pattern

Make 2 wrist warmers.

Round 1:

Make 28 fsc, sl st into first fsc to form a ring. (=28 sc)

(Don’t mind the little gap. You can sew it together with the yarn tail.)

Round 2:

Ch 3 (count as a dc here and throughout), * skip 1 sc, 1 dc in next 3 sc, 1 dc in skipped sc (working over 3 dc just made); rep from * across, sl st into first dc (top of ch3). (=7 sets of 3dc+1 crossed dc, 1 dc).

Round 3:

Ch 1, 1 sc in first and every st across, sl st into first sc. (=28 sc).

Repeat round 2 and 3 until you have all together 17 rounds, ending with a round of sc (round 3). Fatten off and weave in ends.
